Recent positive psychology research has shown that there are strong links between gratitude and feeling happy. When we feel grateful we feel positive and enjoy the good things in life. This can have a fantastic effect on our mood, our overall well being and how we nurture strong and positive relationships.
You don’t need to be a deeply spiritual person to feel true gratitude and happiness. In fact, you probably feel gratitude every day without realising it. Take some time now to think about your life for just a moment. Think about a positive experience that you are grateful for. This could be something that has happened in the past or present. You may be grateful for your friends, your childhood, finding a good job or achieving something you are proud of such as losing weight. It doesn’t matter if the experience was large or small. There is always something to be grateful for.
Relish the good things in life and experience true happiness
Gratitude is all about appreciation and showing it to the people around you and yourself. When people do things for us out of kindness it makes us feel loved and boosts self-esteem. When we say thank you, that love goes full circle. It makes them feel appreciated and encourages them to continue to show love and kindness. It’s a self-perpetuating, beautiful cycle and one that we should all try to cultivate.
